Spanish churros with chocolate have a rich history dating back to the 19th century in Spain. These crispy, deep-fried pastries are believed to have originated from nomadic Spanish shepherds who adapted the recipe from the Chinese. The dough is piped through a star-shaped nozzle, creating their signature ridged appearance. The churros are traditionally served with a thick, velvety hot chocolate for dipping. In Spain, renowned churrerías like Chocolatería San Ginés in Madrid have been serving this iconic treat for over a century. Today, the best churros with chocolate can still be found in traditional Spanish cafes and street vendors across the country. The key to perfecting this dish lies in achieving the ideal balance of crispy exterior and soft, fluffy interior, and the chocolate must be rich and indulgent to complement the churros.
