Chocolate Drizzled Lokma
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups of warm water
- 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast
- 4 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 cup of chocolate chips
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of warm water and 1 teaspoon of active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C). Using two spoons, scoop small portions of the dough and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per batch. Remove the fried dough balls and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 cup of chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and melted.
- Drizzle the melted chocolate over the fried lokma.
- Serve the chocolate drizzled lokma warm and enjoy!
Lokma, a delectable Turkish dessert, has a rich history dating back to the Ottoman Empire. These small, deep-fried dough balls are soaked in a sweet syrup, creating a heavenly burst of flavor. The addition of a luscious chocolate drizzle takes this traditional treat to new heights of indulgence. Renowned chefs in Istanbul, such as Mehmet Gürs of Mikla Restaurant, have elevated Lokma to an art form, infusing it with modern flair. For the best Lokma experience, visit Istanbul's bustling street markets or seek out specialty dessert shops. The key to perfecting Lokma lies in achieving the ideal balance of crispy exterior and soft, pillowy interior, complemented by a generous drizzle of decadent chocolate.
