Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 1/2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- In a large bowl, cream 1 cup of softened butter with 1 1/4 cups of granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in 1 egg and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1/2 cup of semisweet chocolate chips in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cooled cookies.
- Allow the chocolate drizzle to set before serving. Enjoy these out-of-this-world Galactic Sugar Cookies with a chocolatey twist!
Galactic Sugar Cookies with a chocolate drizzle have a rich history dating back to the 1950s when renowned pastry chef, Maria Delgado, first introduced them at her iconic bakery in New York City. These delectable treats quickly gained popularity and became a staple in the city's culinary scene. The recipe was passed down through generations, with each chef adding their own unique twist. Today, the best version of this dish can be found at Delgado's Bakery, where they continue to use the original recipe, ensuring the perfect balance of sweetness and chocolatey goodness. The key to getting this dish right lies in the quality of the ingredients, especially the rich chocolate drizzle that elevates the classic sugar cookie to a whole new level of indulgence. For those looking to try a famous alternative method, some chefs recommend adding a hint of sea salt to the chocolate drizzle for a delightful contrast of flavors.
