Fried Oreos with Caramel Ice Cream
Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 12 Oreo cookies
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 4 scoops of caramel ice cream
- Caramel sauce for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar.
- In a separate bowl, beat 1 large egg, then stir in 1/2 cup of milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. The batter should be thick but pourable.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 375°F (190°C).
- Dip each Oreo cookie into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated, then carefully place it into the hot oil. Fry in batches for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown, flipping once halfway through. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried Oreos and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Scoop a generous portion of caramel ice cream onto each serving plate.
- Arrange the fried Oreos around the ice cream, and drizzle with caramel sauce if desired.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Fried Oreos with Caramel Ice Cream is a decadent dessert that originated in the southern United States. The dish is believed to have been first created at a state fair, where vendors began deep-frying Oreos to create a crispy, indulgent treat. The addition of creamy caramel ice cream takes this dessert to the next level, adding a rich and sweet contrast to the warm, crunchy Oreos. Today, this indulgent dessert can be found in many restaurants and food trucks across the country, especially in the southern states where it has become a beloved treat. Chefs and home cooks alike have put their own spin on the dish, experimenting with different batters and toppings to create unique variations. For the best version of this dish, look for a restaurant or food truck that specializes in deep-fried treats, as they are likely to have perfected the art of creating the perfect crispy coating for the Oreos. Alternatively, if making this dish at home, it's important to get the frying temperature just right to ensure the Oreos are crispy on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside.
