Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup of unsalted butter
- 4 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate
- 1 cup of powdered sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 egg yolks
- 6 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four 6-ounce ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and 4 ounces of semi-sweet chocolate. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until melted and smooth. Let it cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whisk 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 eggs, 2 egg yolks, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well combined.
- Stir the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture until smooth.
- Fold in 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon of salt until just combined.
- Fill each ramekin halfway with the chocolate batter. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of creamy peanut butter to the center of each ramekin, then top with the remaining chocolate batter to cover the peanut butter.
- Bake for 12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is still soft.
- Let the cakes cool for 1 minute, then run a knife around the edges to loosen. Invert each ramekin onto a plate and let it sit for 10 seconds before lifting off the ramekin. The peanut butter filling should ooze out like lava.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the warm, gooey peanut butter chocolate lava cake!
The history of Chocolate Lava Cake with a peanut butter filling is a delightful tale of culinary innovation. This decadent dessert originated in the 1980s, when renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten accidentally underbaked a chocolate cake, creating a gooey, molten center. The addition of a luscious peanut butter filling adds a delightful twist to this classic dessert. Today, this indulgent treat can be found in upscale restaurants and bakeries across the globe, with variations in the filling to suit different palates. The best version of this dish can be savored at Jean-Georges' own restaurants, where the rich, velvety chocolate cake oozes with a creamy peanut butter center. To achieve the perfect Chocolate Lava Cake with a peanut butter filling, it's crucial to use high-quality chocolate and creamy peanut butter. The balance of sweetness and richness is key to creating a truly unforgettable dessert. For those looking for a unique twist, some chefs also incorporate a sprinkle of sea salt to enhance the flavors. Whether enjoyed at a Michelin-starred restaurant or homemade with love, this dessert is a true indulgence for chocolate and peanut butter enthusiasts alike.
