Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 6 apples
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup of butter
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Wooden sticks
Instructions
- Wash and dry the apples. Remove the stems and insert a wooden stick into the top of each apple.
- In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1/2 cup of butter, and 1 cup of heavy cream over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and turns a golden brown color.
- Remove the caramel from the heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Dip each apple into the caramel, swirling to coat evenly. Allow any excess caramel to drip off.
- Place the caramel-coated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet and let them cool at room temperature until the caramel is set.
- Enjoy your delicious caramel apples!
Caramel apples have a rich history dating back to the 1950s when they became a popular treat at fall festivals and fairs in the United States. The combination of crisp, tart apples coated in sweet, gooey caramel quickly became a beloved autumn tradition. Chefs and home cooks alike have put their own spin on this classic treat, adding toppings like nuts, chocolate, or sprinkles. Today, the best caramel apples can be found at local apple orchards and specialty candy shops, where they are often made with fresh, locally sourced apples and handcrafted caramel. The key to a perfect caramel apple lies in the quality of the ingredients and the skillful application of the caramel coating. For a fun twist, some people enjoy making mini caramel apple bites by slicing the apples into smaller pieces and dipping them in caramel. Whether enjoyed at a fall festival or made at home, caramel apples continue to be a delightful indulgence that captures the essence of the season.
