Created by: Howcan Team
Ingredients
- 1 pound phyllo dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cups walnuts, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, mix together the finely chopped walnuts, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Place a sheet of phyllo dough into the baking dish and brush with melted butter. Repeat with 7 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
- Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of the walnut mixture over the phyllo in the baking dish.
- Layer 8 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter, and sprinkling with the walnut mixture. Repeat this process until all the walnut mixture is used, reserving about 8 sheets of phyllo for the top.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
- Bake in preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the baklava is baking, make the honey syrup. In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, 1 cup of honey, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, 1 cinnamon stick, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove the baklava from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over the hot baklava. Let it cool completely before serving.
