Zebra Print Cake with Chocolate Frosting

Created by: Howcan Team

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of butter and 2 cups of sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  • Divide the batter in half. Stir the cocoa powder into one half of the batter until well combined.
  • To create the zebra print effect, spoon 1-2 tablespoons of vanilla batter into the center of each cake pan. Then, spoon 1-2 tablespoons of chocolate batter directly on top of the vanilla batter. Continue alternating the batters until all the batter is used up, creating a concentric circle pattern.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  • Once the cakes are completely cooled, frost the top of one cake layer with chocolate frosting. Place the second layer on top and frost, then add the final layer and frost the top and sides of the cake. Enjoy!
