American

The Pastrami Reuben is a classic deli sandwich that originated in the United States. It is made with layers of thinly sliced pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing, all grilled between slices of rye bread. The dish is said to have been created in the early 20th century, with its exact origins being debated. Some attribute its creation to Arnold Reuben, a New York City restaurateur, while others claim it was the work of a chef at Reuben's Delicatessen. Today, the Pastrami Reuben can be found on the menus of delis and diners across the country, with some of the best versions being served in New York City and other major metropolitan areas. The key to a great Pastrami Reuben lies in the quality of the pastrami, the tanginess of the sauerkraut, and the creaminess of the Russian dressing. Some variations of the sandwich use corned beef instead of pastrami, offering a slightly different flavor profile. Whether enjoyed at a bustling deli in Manhattan or a cozy diner in the Midwest, the Pastrami Reuben continues to be a beloved and iconic American dish.
