Lebanese Shawarma is a popular Middle Eastern street food that has gained worldwide fame. Originating in the 18th century, it was traditionally made with lamb or mutton, but today, it is commonly prepared with chicken, beef, or a mix of both. The meat is marinated in a blend of Middle Eastern spices, then stacked on a vertical rotisserie and slow-roasted to perfection. The tender, flavorful meat is thinly sliced and served in pita bread with tahini sauce, pickles, and sometimes, garlic paste. Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, is renowned for its shawarma, with countless vendors and restaurants offering their own unique take on this beloved dish. For an authentic experience, head to Mar Mikhael or Hamra, where you'll find some of the best shawarma in the country. Whether you're in Lebanon or elsewhere, a well-made shawarma is a true delight for the senses, with its aromatic spices and succulent meat. If you're looking to recreate this dish at home, nailing the marinade is key, as it infuses the meat with the signature flavors of Lebanese cuisine.
